» Contemporary genres: introduction
By Hans Hoegh-Guldberg, knowledge base editor
Last updated: 9 August 2008
Some invitations to contribute have been made; offers to contribute are generally encouraged. Topics include:
- Live performance of popular contemporary music generally
- Specific focus on selected genres such as rock, R&B, and hip hop (the list is not intended to be exhaustive).
As usual, the intention is to incorporated under each heading a descriptive 'mapping' article, analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and strengths (SWOT), and an issues paper. One or more of these can of course be combined, like a SWOT analysis being used to define the key issues facing a particular genre.
Meanwhile, the government culture and recreation portal provides a brief history of Australian ‘pop’ music with links to separate histories of Australian rock and other genres subject of subsequent pages of the knowledge base.
The websites of four of the State music associations may help build up
an overview of the popular music industry in different locations:
- Music NSW
- QMusic - the Queensland music industry network
- Tas Music - supporting the Tasmanian music industry
- West Australian Music Industry Association (WAM).
The topic may overlap with the venues and audiences page.
