Andrea KellerAndrea Keller was born in Sydney, Australia of Czech parents in 1973. Convinced from a young age that she would make a career in classical music, her aspirations took a different direction after she discovered jazz at the age of 14. Currently living in Melbourne, Australia, Andrea leads her own projects as well as being a member of contemporary ensembles such as Kynan Robinson's "En Rusk", Paul Williamson's Sextet, "Browne/Keller/Murphy" and the Bennetts Lane Big Band. Her performance experience encompasses all major Australian jazz festivals including the Melbourne International Jazz Festival (VIC), Wangarratta Festival of Jazz (VIC), the Melbourne Women's International Jazz Festival (VIC), the Fremantle Jazz Festival (WA), the Perth International Arts Festival (WA), the Pinnacles Music Festival (QLD) and the Jazz:Now Festival (NSW), as well as performances in the Czech Republic (Karlovy Vary Jazz Festival), Scotland and Ireland. Andrea has released three albums as leader, winning her two ARIA awards and a "Bell Award". She has received a number of commissions and currently lectures at the Victorian College of the Arts and Monash University. In 2002 Andrea used her Freedman Fellowship to spend six months based in the Czech Republic absorbing music of the Czech folk tradition, and meeting and performing with European jazz artists. Whilst there she attended the Prague Jazz Workshop, Frydlant Jazz Workshop and studied with Karel Ruzicka and John Taylor. She performed throughout the Czech Republic, including jazz clubs in Prague, Cheb and the Karlovy Vary Jazz Festival, as well as in Edinburgh, Scotland.
