Phil Slater

The 2002 Jazz Fellowship was awarded to trumpet player, composer and band leader Phil Slater. Phil is a Sydney-based musician of great musical originality and integrity. He has performed with the Mike Nock Quintet and Big Small Band, Dale Barlow, dig, AustraLysis, Barney McAll Unit, and many other ensembles.

Phil is the leader or co-leader of several groups including StrobeCOMAvirgo, Band of Five Names, and The Very Interactive Band.

Phil has toured internationally and performed as a featured artist at many music festivals in the world including the Montreux, Montreal, North Sea, and Umbria jazz festivals and is a regular performer at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival and the Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide International Arts Festivals.The Freedman Fellowship assisted Phil in developing his websites, and distribution and promotion of his music.
