This paper lists the more obvious opportunities for interactive communication using the symmetrical high speed National Broadband Network.

Prepared by Steven Dillon, Anna Howell, Jane Law, Richard Letts, Bradley Merrick and Mandy Stefanakis. This paper was prepared following a recommendation of the Music Council’s Classical Music Summit in July 2010.

It goes on to note the potential influence of the NBN and digital technologies more generally on the nature of music teaching and learning, pressing for a more open and self-directed style of learning and thus changing the task of the teachers. There will be a need for teacher to become knowledgeable about the technical issues in the area and for administrations to remove unnecessary constraints on the use of digital technologies and communications.
