Ausmusic Forum

Reconnecting the Community to Music

Rekindling the joy of making music with other people is the aim of a series of community music therapy groups being held from late this month until the end of June at the Kuring-gai campus of University of Technology, Sydney.

Designed to help people reconnect to music and through music to each other, the groups are being run by the UTS Centre for Research and Education in the Arts in support of the national 'Music: Play for Life' campaign.

1. Hand Drumming - Tuesdays 10am-noon
Dates: April 27, May 4, 11, 18, 25, June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. Fee: $198
Introduction to various hand drums and styles; buying a drum of your own; beginners drumming skills; drumming as a group for fun, relaxation, vitality and rehabilitation.

2. Reconnecting with Music Making - Tuesdays 2pm-4pm
Dates: April 27, May 4, 11, 18, 25, June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. Fee: $198
Reconnecting with your under-utilized musical skills; jamming with others; basic song writing.

3. Women's Drumming Circle - Saturdays 10am-noon
Dates: April 24, May 1, 15, 29, June 12, 26. Fee: $99
Hand drumming as a way of meeting and
connecting with others. (Bring your own drum).
