You can find sources of financial assistance for music study in your state by clicking on the state name. The National list is for financial assistance programs that do not require applicants to be resident in any particular state nor require the study to take place in any particular state.
Listed here are awards that offer music instruction directly, usually in a specified institution, free of charge or for a reduced fee, and awards that offer a cash prize or other assistance such as travel and accommodation, intended to be used to undertake music study. In the latter case, the winner usually has some freedom to choose where or with whom to study.
There are many other music competitions that award cash prizes with no requirement or intention that the money must be used for music study -- although winners could choose to do so. These are not listed here. Members of the Music Council of Australia Network receive information by fortnightly email bulletins about such competitions.
