Productivity Commission Draft Research Report on the Early Childhood Development WorkforceSubmission to the Productivity CommissionPrepared by Lynn Gailey This submission responds to the Productivity Commission’s recent report on its inquiry into the Early Childhood Development Workforce. That report recognises the benefits delivered by music in non-cognitive learning. It does not acknowledge the research demonstrating the enhancements to cognitive learning resulting from continuing musical activity. It also does not acknowledge the deficiencies in the provision of music education as a component of the undergraduate preparation of early childhood teachers. The Music Council submission points out these deficiencies and reasserts the importance of adequate teacher preparation. |
