It is one of life's most common irritations: the song you do not like that becomes stuck in your head. Now scientists claim to have found a way to help anyone plagued by annoying tunes they cannot stop humming.

Daniel Smith wins second prize in Sir Georg Solti Inernational Conductors Competition |

On September 23, brilliant young Australian conductor, Daniel Smith, won Second Prize in the final of the prestigious Sir Georg Solti International Conductors’ Competition at the Alte Oper, Frankfurt, conducting the renowned Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. He is the first Australian major prizewinner in this internationally recognised, highly competitive conducting competition which this year attracted over 400 applicants from 70 countries. In a public concert broadcast and webcast live around Europe, Daniel conducted Weber’s Euryanthe Overture and the second suite from Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, coming second to Principal Conductor of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Lin Daye, and ahead of American conductor, Brandon Keith Brown, in third place.
